BRIEF LIFE UPDATE:

Hello, Hello, it's been a while! Here's a quick update on what's been happening the last few months :)

- Been keeping at it with the job applications! #hireme

I know it's about finding the right opportunity and it's all about getting your foot in the door, but let me tell you (again) HOW FRUSTRATING AND DEPRESSING THIS IS. Trying to keep my optimism though :)))

- Started hostessing part-time so I'm saving $$$$

- I created a poetry account on Instagram! I've been writing a lot in the few months so being able to share it with others in this type of medium has been super rewarding. FOLLOW @VIC.POETRY

MY HAIR JOURNEY

So I've been thinking a lot about this because I haven't gotten my hair done in a bit. Awhile back, my friend, Kat, posted a photo on Instagram that showed her different hair colors over the years and I thought, "wow. that's so cool." Just to be able to see the transformation/journey of each color and how she went from one to the next was something that you don't usually see side-by-side (or something I don't usually see side-by-side). I was inspired by her post to show some of my hair journey because if you have known me in the last few years or just follow on my social medias, you know that I have colored my hair.

Here's the thing about having your hair a different color – IT'S THE BEST FRIGGIN' THING EVER.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I went through with coloring my hair initially because I needed a change in my life. You know that saying that girls usually get their hair done after they've gone through a break-up or need to drastically change something so they do their hair? Yeah, I'd say that's not always true, but definitely a factor; I started because I needed to drastically change something. But here's the thing I didn't really get until I started...

I feel empowered and more in touch with different parts of myself when I color my hair.

It's almost like I become a different version, or discover different sides to myself, depending on my hair. When I colored it red, I felt more sultry, when I colored it purple, I felt sassier (like is that even possible? :P) and when I colored it blue/teal, I felt calmer and more worldly (I'll explain that later).

The different colors brought out different parts of me and also marked different chapters/phases of my life. For example, my blue/teal hair was when I was studying abroad in London for 3.5 months. I knew that those colors wouldn't have lasted in Hawaii due to the sun and overall weather, but in Europe, particularly London, it was rainy, a bit darker and not as blisteringly hot as at home. This hair was my "London hair" and whenever I see photos or think about that style, I am reminded of that chapter in my life. (Worldly Victoria....? LOL)

Hair is such a great thing to play around with, be adventurous with and an even better way to practice self-expression. Even if it's just to get highlights or to stay more natural with the color change, it can really make a difference in one's confidence, mood and overall way they present themselves. I encourage anyone who is even semi-interested in coloring their hair to research different coloring styles, find a hair stylist/artist whose work you like and would want to have done on your head and reflect on if this is an investment you want to start.

Now, let's be real...getting your hair done regularly is not cheap. Especially if you get your hair done professionally, you're looking at upwards of $150+ per session, although, prices can vary with salon, experience (like if you go to a cosmetology school and a student does it) or your hair health/length. But just like people who get their nails done regularly, eyebrows, bikini or other body parts waxed, or even get massages, facials, etc., making your hair a part of your budget is completely your choice. It's something I definitely have to save up for, but my girl is AMAZING, my hair's integrity is kept and is still super solid, and the confidence boost it gives me makes it worth it.

Beauty is pain!!!...even on your wallet 🙈

If anyone is looking for a great hairstylist/colorist in Honolulu, message me!

Anyway, to cap this whole spiel about hair and hair coloring, I really just wanted to highlight the benefits I have experienced through my hair journey and hope that those who also color their hair can relate, as well as give some thoughts to ponder to those who are thinking about visiting a colorist soon.

PLUS I HAVEN'T DONE MY HAIR IN A YEAR AND NEED/WELCOME SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHAT COLOR I SHOULD DO NEXT :))))
